Species recovery, surveys and training only hold if the people living alongside the habitat have a reason to keep it. That is where my field work starts, and what every project I take on is measured against.
Population and nesting survey of freshwater turtles across a 140 km river stretch, with sand-bank monitoring, local boatmen trained as observers, and a season-by-season count through two nesting cycles.
Field training for 120 frontline forest staff across four divisions, covering patrolling protocol, species identification, safe rescue handling and a refresher module run at the end of the first year.
Care and soft-release of 38 rescued chelonians and small mammals, including quarantine, habitat assessment ahead of release, and six months of post-release monitoring with the local range office.
